Function of the Left Atrium in the Chagas’ Cardiomyopathy

چکیده
Results The age was 48±13 years old and 69% were men. Most of patients (88%) were in functional classes I and II, under a conventional treatment for cardiac insufficiency. The fraction of ejection of the left ventricle was 39±13%. The indicators of diastolic function associate to those of systolic function and the functional class. The carriers of pseudonormal or restrictive pattern of diastolic dysfunction presented a larger diameter of the left atrium, lower flow velocities in the left atrial appendix and a longer duration of the atrial reverse. There was no difference among the patients with normal pattern and abnormal diastolic relaxation in relation to the control group.

Predictors of mortality in patients with dilated cardiomyopathy: relevance of chagas disease as an etiological factor.
INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVES Previous studies on the influence of Chagas disease on mortality in patients with heart failure were limited by the heterogeneity of the patient populations. Few data are available on the association between the underlying cause of dilated cardiomyopathy and long-term prognosis. The aims of this study were to identify risk factors for mortality in patients with dilat...
متن کاملEvaluation of Right Ventricular Systolic Function in Chagas Disease Using Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging.
BACKGROUND Right ventricular (RV) impairment is postulated to be responsible for prominent systemic congestion in Chagas disease. However, occurrence of primary RV dysfunction in Chagas disease remains controversial. We aimed to study RV systolic function in patients with Chagas disease using cardiac magnetic resonance. METHODS AND RESULTS This cross-sectional study included 158 individuals w...
متن کاملLeft Atrial Function in Patients with Chronic Chagasic Cardiomyopathy
BACKGROUND Chagas disease is a cause of dilated cardiomyopathy, and information about left atrial (LA) function in this disease still lacks. OBJECTIVE To assess the different LA functions (reservoir, conduit and pump functions) and their correlation with the echocardiographic parameters of left ventricular (LV) systolic and diastolic functions. METHODS 10 control subjects (CG), and patients...
متن کاملIs atrial function in Chagas dilated cardiomyopathy more impaired than in idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy?
AIMS Atrial function is an important component in overall cardiovascular performance. However, information on atrial function in dilated cardiomyopathy is limited. This study aimed to assess atrial function in dilated cardiomyopathy and to investigate if parameters of atrial function are more impaired in Chagas dilated cardiomyopathy (CDC) than in idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy (IDC). METH...
متن کاملEvaluation of Cardiac Mitochondrial Function by a Nuclear Imaging Technique using Technetium-99m-MIBI Uptake Kinetics
Mitochondria play an important role in energy production for the cell. The proper function of a myocardial cell largely depends on the functional capacity of the mitochondria. Therefore it is necessary to establish a novel and reliable method for a non-invasive assessment of mitochondrial function and metabolism in humans. Although originally designed for evaluating myocardial perfusion, 99mTc...
